Latin Name: Crataegus viridis ‘Winter King’
Height: 25 – 35 feet
Spread: 25 – 35 feet
Sunlight: Full Sun
Bloom Time: May
Hardiness Zone: 4-7
Description:
Winter King Hawthorn is primarily thornless, although the occasional small one might appear and features a wide, round to pyramidal crown (vase shaped). The silver grey bark will exfoliate when mature, revealing orange inner bark. Profuse white flowers give way to larger red fruits compared to the straight species that ripen in September, lasting often on the trees into the winter. While edible and made into jelly, it is most commonly eaten by birds. The glossy dark green foliage turns to purples and reds in autumn and is disease resistant. The Winter King Hawthorn is a nativar.
