Latin Name: Juniperus virginiana ‘Taylor’
Height: 15 – 20 feet
Spread: 3 – 4 feet
Sunlight: Full Sun
Hardiness Zone: 4-9
Description:
The Taylor Juniper has semi-soft foliage of silvery gray-green. In winter, it will show some bronze tones. Believed to be the male form, it does not produce any juniper berries. The gray to reddish-brown bark exfoliates in thin shreddy strips. The heartwood is a reddish-brown, often used for cedar chests. The heartwood especially is aromatic. The Taylor Juniper features a dense, upright, narrowly columnar habit, resembling that of the Italian Cypress. Being a nativar, the Taylor Juniper is an excellent choice for our zone to get that silhouette that many associate with Italy. This shape also makes it a great option for screening and windbreaks.
