A well known variety, the Jonathan Apple has been around for centuries. It is known for its medium-sized bright red fruits that are juicy and tart. Common uses include pies, ciders, freezing, and fresh eating. These apples also store well, for 3 to 6 months in the refrigerator. They ripen in mid-September to early October. The Jonathan Apple tree features light pink buds that open to white flowers in early May. These blossoms are fragrant. While the Jonathan is self-fruiting, it has a better yield when cross pollinated. Compatible varieties include, but are not limited to, McIntosh, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Red Delicious. The fragrant blossoms can be cut and enjoyed inside the home.
