Description:Inkberry Gem Box is an evergreen alternative to boxwoods. Gem Box is a natural dwarf shrub with dark green foliage that can show red tips in spring. Prune to shape after new growth emerges, just like a boxwood, or allow it to grow on its own to a neat, mounded shape. This holly is faster growing than boxwoods and is a nativar. The shallow roots of this plant benefit from being mulched in. Plant in any location that you would a boxwood, as long as the soil is well draining. This variety is a female; to produce berries, it will need a male pollinator, such as Inkberry Squeeze Box. It can also benefit from the occasional aluminum sulfate application.
