Description:
The White Oak tree is a classic, native shade tree featuring dark green mature leaves that emerge pinkish and change to a brilliant red fall color. In some years, this color might be more of a muted brownish-red. The young pyramidal tree will slowly grow into a gorgeous, widespread rounded habit, becoming a home to a large array of wildlife. Due to its large mature size, it is not recommended for the small yard environment. White Oak is an important hardwood timber tree. It has light ash-gray bark, giving it its common name of white. The acorn cap is bumpy and the nut is a dark chocolate brown. White Oaks must be transplanted when young due to its tap root. Older, mature trees are highly sensitive to root disturbances.
