Apple Slices Spigelia features dark wine red tubular flowers with a star shaped tip. This tip and the insides of the tubes are yellow. These flowers can be cut for fresh enjoyment. They are also self-cleaning, no need to deadhead. Foliage is a lovely dark green and wedge shaped, found on stems occurring in upright clumps. Spigelias perform best in rich, moist soils that are well-drained and in full sun to part shade conditions. More flowers occur when planted in full sun. They will tolerate full shade or soggy soils.
