An old favorite, Sum & Substance features large, bright chartreuse leaves that will vary in color from light green to gold. A sun lover, this Hosta's leaf color is best shown in part sun as it will show signs of burning in the hot summer sun here in Indiana. Also, the more sun it has, the more water it needs to not burn. Pale lavender, bell-shaped blossoms can be found rising above the neat mounds of foliage on 48 inch long scapes. This low maintenance perennial can be deadheaded if one chooses and should have the spent foliage removed after dormancy has occurred in late fall. The leaves and the flowers can be utilized in a variety of floral arrangements. Hostas make excellent choices for shady areas and woodland gardens, helping to cover the ground and create texture and impact.
