Description:
Native, the Grey Headed Coneflower features downward pointing yellow ray flowers surrounding a dull gray central disk that has an elongated cylinder shape like a sombrero. The disk will emit an anise aroma when bruised. The pinnately divided leaves are found on stiff stems. Leave the spent flowers to go to seed as birds will eat these seeds in fall and winter. The Grey Headed Coneflower prefers well drained soils, including clay; it tolerates poor dry soils.
