Spigelia is an up and coming perennial option that was recently introduced to the industry. Little Redhead is a specific variety that features bright red tubular flowers that have a star shaped tip. This tip and the insides of the tubes are yellow. These flowers can be cut for fresh enjoyment. Foliage is a lovely green and wedge shaped, found on stems occurring in upright clumps. Spigelias perform best in rich, moist soils that are well-drained and in full sun to part shade conditions. They will tolerate full shade or soggy soils. Spigelia is native to Southeastern United States, including Kentucky, but is not native to Indiana.
