Dwarf Mugo Pine is a shorter version of the Mugo Pine that typically reaches 20 - 25 feet tall. There are many varieties of Dwarf Mugo Pine. This one averages 5 - 10 feet over the years and has a dense, symmetrical growth and compact, rounded form. The blue-green evergreen foliage takes on a golden hue during the winter cold. To control the size and growth rate of this slow growing pine, alternate removing the candles each year or cut the candles back in half. Candles is the term for the new growth on pines as this growth resembles candlesticks. Dwarf Mugho Pines can be shaped into bonsais and topiary standards.
