Description:A glorious nativar, Wildfire produces bold red new foliage that matures to dark green, then a fiery scarlet in fall. It has a neat, pyramidal habit of growth when young that matures to an upright habit with an oval to rounded crown. It needs moist, organic, acidic soils, so an application of aluminum sulfate each year is beneficial. Wildfire Black Gum is intolerant of urban pollution and possesses good disease resistance. When older, the bark of this tree becomes deeply furrowed, adding interest in the winter. Female trees will produce dark blue to black drupes in fall.
